Bank statement formats EasyEntry reads

EasyEntry isn't tied to a list of banks: it reads a statement from any bank or card issuer that you can upload as a CSV or TXT export, a PDF (text or scanned) or a JPG or PNG photo, up to 10 MB per file.

CSV exports are read on our server by a layout detector that our tests run on 40 bank, card and payment-app export layouts; PDFs and photos are read by AI. Before you build a P&L, a PDF or photo is checked against the statement's printed totals and balances, and a CSV against its running balance and total rows when it has them.

What you can upload

Accepted statement files
FormatFilesHow it's readWhat it's checked against
CSV or text export.csv, .txtOn our server, without AI: columns, date and number formats and the sign convention are detected from the fileThe file's running balance and total rows, when it has them
PDF statement.pdfText is extracted on our server, then read by AI in two passes: the printed totals first, then every transactionThe printed totals, beginning and ending balances and transaction count
Scanned PDF.pdfWhen a PDF has no readable text, the whole PDF (up to 100 pages) is read by AIThe printed totals, beginning and ending balances and transaction count
Photo or screenshot.jpg, .jpeg, .pngRead by AI from the imageThe printed totals, beginning and ending balances and transaction count

Several files, one P&L

Upload several statements — months, accounts, or a bank account and a card — and they're combined into one P&L of up to 1,000 transactions, for one page. Rows repeated across overlapping files are set aside as likely duplicates, and you can keep them.

Not accepted

Excel workbooks (.xlsx), OFX, QFX and QBO files, and HEIC photos. Export a CSV or download the PDF statement from your bank instead, or save the photo as JPG.

CSV exports

CSV export layouts we test against

Our automated tests run the CSV reader on reconstructions of these institutions' export layouts — built from each one's export format, not from customer files. A layout that isn't listed goes through the same detector.

Export quirks the CSV reader handles

  • Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters, with or without a header row
  • US, European and French number formats (1,234.56 · 1.234,56 · 1 234,56), currency symbols and amounts in parentheses
  • Signed amounts, separate debit and credit columns, CR/DR suffixes and debit/credit indicator columns
  • UTF-8 with or without a byte-order mark, Excel “Unicode Text” (UTF-16) and older Windows-1252 exports
  • Opening-balance, total and footer rows, which are skipped rather than counted
  • Rows marked failed, declined, pending or reversed, which are left out and reported
PDF statements

PDF statement layouts we test the AI reader on

We run the AI statement reader on reconstructions of these PDF layouts — checking, savings, money-market, combined and card statements — including details that trip up readers: two checks printed per line, daily-balance tables that aren't transactions, and card charges printed as positive numbers.

Questions about statements

My bank isn't listed. Will my statement work?

Most likely. The lists show layouts we test against, not a limit: every CSV goes through the same layout detector, and every PDF or photo through the same AI reader and statement check. If what was read doesn't match the statement's totals, you'll see that before you build a P&L.

Should I upload a CSV export or a PDF statement?

Either works. A CSV export is read by our own parser, not by AI, so its digits aren't misread. A PDF statement prints the bank's totals and balances, which every transaction is checked against.

Can I upload a photo of a paper statement?

Yes, as a JPG or PNG (save an iPhone HEIC photo as JPG first). Photograph the whole page, flat and well lit, with the totals visible: the check compares what was read with those printed totals.

Does EasyEntry read credit-card statements?

Yes. Card statements are read the card way round — charges are money out, payments and credits money in — and payments to the card are kept off the P&L. When a card CSV lists purchases as positive numbers, EasyEntry flips the signs or asks you first, and a flip can be undone.
